The Cantonese Opera Advancement Association (COAA), established and registered as a non-profit making organization in 2008, has been one of the Venue Partners of Sha Tin Town Hall ever since. With a determined objective to conserve Cantonese opera in a sustainable manner, we hope to spread social awareness of such traditional performing art by organizing a large variety of diverse programs and activities.
COAA has collaborated with over ten renowned Cantonese opera troupes on numerous entertaining performances throughout the years, not only offering both established and up-and-coming artists with more opportunities to showcase their artistry, but also providing audiences with top-notch performance. The organization nurtures young talents and conserve Cantonese Opera to the future generation by hosting annual performances with children and teenagers.
COAA regularly hosts free talks and workshops with the goal of increasing public interest in and participation in Cantonese Opera. Past events have included "Sha Tin Cantonese Opera Fun Day," "Cantonese Opera Performances for Students," and "Foyer Cantonese Opera Excerpt Performances." Through past partnership with The Audio Description Hong Kong (AuDeAHK), audio describers received training in vivid language translation of Cantonese opera’s visual features, allowing the visually impaired to develop images in mind and access to Cantonese opera. The success of this program in promoting inclusiveness within the community has been demonstrated.
We cordially invite you to attend our "Sha Tin Cantonese Opera Fun Day" to deepen your understanding and interest of Cantonese Opera, allowing Cantonese Opera to thrive as the first World Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong, acknowledged by UNESCO.
